Single Moms How to Take a Sick Day
Feel good about finding ways to cope while you are under the weather. Knowing when you have to just manage and not expect your parenting to be a day to be filled with supermom activities is important for your sanity.
What is the minimum amount you can get done today? Some days all you can do is get through till to bedtime. You do not need to beat yourself up. As a single mommy you are already doing two people's jobs. It is okay to need a sick day.
Crafts can be a double edged sword. Some crafts for sticky fingered wild beasts make more of a mess than help. Aim for coloring books or play dough and avoid glitter. TIP: Watch out while sick that your toddler or little one is not feeding crafting supplies to the pets.
TV can save you when mommy needs to nap in a pile of tissues. Your toddler can hang in bed with you to watch a movie and you can keep an eye on them between dozing. For infants mom can play music and rest in bed. Babies love songs and can be quite entertained without you getting out of bed when sick.
Steamy showers can save your stuffed up sinuses big time and as a single mom you can bring your gummybear into the bath with you. An infant can rest in their rock and play while you shower and a toddler can play in the shower while you breathe up steam.
Playpen fun is a great solution for mommies without high needs babies. As an infant my son would scream until purple if I laid him down in his pack and play. He's still that way but now will cry till he vomits on himself. So go easy on yourself if your high needs kid won't let you rest while sick. When all else fails bribe a friend or family member to help you out. Ask for help on facebook groups. You aren't alone even if you are a single mom. I know I could never get by while sick if it weren't for my friends keeping an eye on the terror.
