If you have pale skin like I do it can be pretty hard to keep from burning while traveling. There are a couple of tried and true tricks for keeping Soft and Pale skin while traveling.
Going on a cruise to a hot and very sunny destination can cause a lot of skin issues to flare up and bite you in the face. I have very sensitive skin and am that wonderful shade of glow-in-the-dark pale. Since you can see the veins in my skin the fist thing I put in my suitcase is sunblock. With a won't-stop toddler I need to use spray sunblock as much as I can for speed and ease.
I really like a good zinc based sunblock for a long day on the beach and then I reapply my spray throughout the day.
You might feel safe and sound with a couple layers of sunblock but I always travel with a small and collapsible parasol to pop up and add a little protection on long, scenic walks or lazy beach days. This is a great item for when baby is tiny and you are baby wearing as the parasol protects both of you from burning.
A lot of what we as women see every day does not support feeling good about being pale. It's as lovely a shade as any other and you don't need to apply fake tanners or burn yourself for some idea of beauty. Be you: be happy in your own skin not because some movie told you so but because you love yourself as much anyone else.
The Best to Bring:
Pack two types of sunblock.
Always bring a crush-able 4 inch brim hat or bigger.
Pack two neutral color light-weight cotton button ups that will shade your arms and dry fast.
The 10 things toddlers know best
1.They are in wonder at the water from a faucet and know in the depths of their heart that mom really, really wants that faucet water to land on the floor.
2.Cheese is a whole food group. Toddlers will help you understand this.
3.The world can end when you are given the wrong animal cracker. It really fucking can.
4.Videos on dogs are better on the 50th watch than the first twenty.
5.The ecstasy filled joy of breastfeeding can be replaced with nothing else. Not even that expensive new toy you got them for your date night.
6.Mommies are both a wet-wipe and a handy snot rag. Maybe you used to wear nice looking clothing that fit well and you felt happy about. But now your toddler has helped you discover the joys of 3 day old yoga pants that used to be black and are now at best snot covered gray.
7.Poop works really well for wall paint. You may not see all the amazing hues when you are changing the nine-thousandth diaper but toddlers will be happy to show you just how many colors of the rainbow are in their poop.
8. Crayons look pretty on new flooring. Sure, we moms think coloring books are where it's at for style but toddlers know that recently installed flooring and freshly painted walls are the real art-houses of their day.
9.If you pull your mom's nipple it will get her attention faster than saying hello. All breastfeeding moms know this logically but toddlers know this truth on a deep level of glee.
10. Ice cream is kept in the freezer. You parents out there might think this is common knowledge until you witness your toddler discover this magical truth and realize that even duct tape will not keep your fridge door shut now.
