Dove Mission's Ghosts
Emilio looked up at them and smiled, “Nice you to meet you all.” He said, putting his hand out to shake Lisa and Mary’s hands.
Eva put her hand out to shake Emilio’s but his eyes were already on Lisa.
Emilio began his story, not waiting for Ted or Jude to catch up to the group.
“It was in the year 1637 that Ursola was brutally slain by the hand of her lover Jeroni, the Marquis of Morella.”
Emilio told the whole tale with an air of secrets being only now let out after hundreds of years in which they were left to fester and become fearsome. He reached his arm high above his head and pointed to a spot high up on the wall of the Mission.
Emilio continued his story, “There was so much blood the priests had to clean all the way up there. The reason for her murder has remained a mystery all this time, no one has ever been able to discover why Jeroni went crazy and killed Ursola.”
Mary twisted her neck to look up at the white wall, “Is there any lore about what might have happened?”
Emilio smiled and put his arm back down, he’d made his point, “Only whispers of witchcraft and that Ursola was not the first sacrifice given on these lands.”
“We’ll be extra careful tonight then.” Eva said in her usual manner of ending conversations before they started.
Emilio looked at the whole group, in their fleece jackets with camcorders around their necks.
“Oh I wouldn’t’ recommend you staying over night. Even the priests they lock themselves into their rooms at night.” He said, a wisp of real concern on his tongue.
Lisa stepped forward and smiled “we’ll be just fine, all of us have been doing this kind of thing for a long time.”
“So have the ghosts.” Emilio said, smiling right back.
“Come on, we need to get our gear and set up.” Eva sighed as she said the last two words.
“May god be with the five of you, but I guess even the Father may not enter this place in the dark.” Emilio told the Ghost Files team but Ted only said, “Thanks.”
Mary turned to Ted and patted his shoulder, “you’ll be fine.” She said.
Eva headed off to the car and their waiting gear.
“Both of you get going, Eva’s leaving us in the dust.” Lisa said to Mary and Ted.
“Yeah, don’t get her mad.” Ted laughed to Mary.
Ted and Eva set up an audio recorder in the center of a dark high-ceiled room within the mission.
Eva looked around the room before saying “Let’s move around and see if it picks anything up.”
“Is anyone in this room with Eva and I?” Ted asked the thick, dark air around them.
As his words echoed in the air the recorder moved ever so slightly to the right and Eva’s eyes widened with surprise.
“Wow.” She said more to herself than to Ted. “Can you tell us your name?” Ted asked, looking around the ceiling for some spec of supernaturalness.
The recorder made a strange sound, a light blipping in the dark but neither team member could understand if it was words. Without warning the recorder’s light went dead and a gust so strong Ted fell over blasted through the room. Eva and Ted were left in the darkness with a cold silence hanging between them.
