Cloth Diaper Suggestions from the Single Momma
Don't get carried away with buying cloth diapers and inserts. You only want a few days worth because dirty diapers are going to smell up your entire house. It is a good idea to buy 2-3 days worth of diapers and then just plan on washing them every other morning or so.
My favorite cloth diaper covers are the thirsties brand. For one, these covers do not cost all that much. They are also breathable enough to avoid diaper rash but water resistant enough to keep your sofa pretty safe.
I survived with two covers for many months but finally got a third cover and love having a little extra for when blowouts still happen. Which with my kid's super power skills of pooping are an ever present threat.
The bare minimum you will need is 2 adjustable covers and 20 cloth diapers. I also highly recommend getting the charcoal and bamboo blend inserts for nighttime.

What is your budget for diapers? Cloth costs more upfront but will save you thousands if you have several kids.

We go through about a diaper every hour and a half. I will use 1-2 inserts at night along with his diapers. I always try to give my son time outside his diaper to help avoid rashes. I wash covers several times a week.
Mornings I take off his night diaper and let his skin breathe for 5 minutes. Then we go through 2-3 diapers over the next hour. The rest of the day he goes every 1-2 hours between changes.
Evening he gets extra diaper cream and a charcoal insert. Then he fights sleep until the house looks like a hurricane hit it.
