If you're like millions of people you will be spending at least part of the festive season with family, in a strange environment for your pet pooch. Taking an extra bit of notice to care for your dog in a new area, with the ever present holiday party dangers of too much rich food and poisonous treats we people love, is an easy way to make sure your buddy is healthy and alive for the new year.
If you're being hosted by family this season think of ways to make your dog's visit easy on him and your hosts. Give your dogs lots of exercise and keep them away from holiday decorations.
Watch Out For:
Tree ornaments can be a real danger if they're left at dog height, best to keep the pet clear of the room with the tree or at least keep an eye out while they're around those tasty looking tree decorations.
Moldy water from the tree can hurt both cats and dogs, make sure they can't reach the water and won't start drinking out of the base.
Food To Blacklist:
Onions can cause bad reactions and even death so don't feed your fur-buddy table scraps with onion in the dish. Even a little can make them vomit and nobody wants to spend the holidays mopping up dog puke from on top of the DVD player.
Chocolate: an ounce per every ten pounds for dark chocolates can be deadly for your four-pawed buddy in crime.
Macadamia Nuts can cause bad health problems at small quantities.
