Let us know: How Do You Define Success in the Dating Arena?
Dating ain’t like Breathing is about keeping a little sanity and humor while searching the many channels today to find love, friendship and sometimes just a funny story to tell friends about that bad date. I'll be covering all sorts of topics with varying subjects. For our first edition I'm addressing basics that seem to be easily forgotten.
Part of playing the field that is modern dating life is allowing yourself the time and space to keep yourself whole while navigating the differing personalties of your admirers. By putting that phone away you give yourself the chance to connect and see what can become of a real conversation.
Past Lovers do not belong in first or even third date conversation. As you gain trust and understanding of each other you can slowly begin to discuss past loves and meaningful moments you had in those relationships. No one needs to hear or ask all about such personal topics on the first few dates.
The person you’re dating has become themselves not alone, on a single path but together with the help all those past people. Embrace the fact that we are shaped by others and our reactions and relationships to them.
Online dating brings new and ever fluctuating rules, but one rule you can count on is retaining your manners. Terminating contact can be tricky, but it is best to know when you aren't desired any longer. Sending many emails or leaving too many messages is not a good way to maintain contact, a simple email asking if they would still like to chat and meet is enough. If you do not get a reply leave it at that.
Another important rule for online match making is to remember the Rule of Three, if after three emails or three chats on the phone you don't both want to meet up then move on to the next profile, no need to linger.
Make sure if you're going to post photos of yourself for a profile that they are honest, recent images. When you meet you both want to be able to recognize each other, right?
